Hussein Ammouta tells Al Ahly players: No place guaranteed by reputation
Al Ahly coach Hussein Ammouta has reportedly told his players that reputation will not guarantee anyone a place in his starting line-up as he looks to establish discipline and competition within the Egyptian giants’ squad.
Journalist Karim Ramzi revealed during a television interview that Ammouta delivered the message during a team lecture, making it clear that every player would be judged on performance rather than status or past achievements.
According to statements carried by Egyptian newspaper Sada El Balad, Ammouta stressed that no member of the squad would receive special treatment because of their reputation.
Performance comes first
Ramzi said Ammouta told the players that the coaching staff would not consider anyone a guaranteed starter simply because of their name or history.
Instead, the Moroccan coach has reportedly made performance in training one of the key factors in determining who plays.
Players who demonstrate the highest level of performance and readiness will therefore have the strongest claims for selection, regardless of their status within the squad.
Competition for places
Ammouta’s approach is aimed at creating greater competition among Al Ahly players while maintaining discipline within the team.
The message also gives every member of the squad an equal opportunity to earn playing time, with selection based on current form rather than reputation.
For one of Africa’s most successful clubs, the policy could create a competitive environment as Al Ahly prepare for the challenges of the new season.
