Sinayoko stuns Marseille after 23 seconds in record-breaking Paris FC start

Lassine Sinayoko scored after only 23 seconds to give Paris FC a dream start against Olympique de Marseille at the Velodrome on Sunday, setting an unwanted Ligue 1 record for the hosts.

Although Sinayoko’s goal set a new mark for the fastest goal conceded by Olympique de Marseille in the Opta era, it was not the quickest Ligue 1 goal recorded during that period.

That distinction belongs to Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored for AS Monaco against Olympique Lyonnais in April 2024 after just 21 seconds.

The difference between the two goals is only two seconds. Yet the significance for Olympique de Marseille is considerably greater: since Opta began collecting the relevant data in the 2006-07 campaign, the club had never conceded so early in a Ligue 1 match.

Sinayoko’s finish therefore carried two separate distinctions. It was close to the fastest goal recorded in Ligue 1 in the modern data era, while also becoming the earliest strike Olympique de Marseille had allowed in the competition since that record-keeping period began.

For Paris FC, the immediate reward was a lead secured before the match had properly taken shape. For the home side, the opening moment created a steep challenge and left Olympique de Marseille needing to respond after suffering the earliest setback in its Ligue 1 history covered by Opta’s records.
