AC Milan plot move for Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri
AC Milan have reportedly identified Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri as a potential target as the youngster prepares to bring his time in North London to an end this summer.
The Italian giants are keen to add more creativity to their attacking options and could make a move for the 19-year-old, who has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular under Mikel Arteta.
Nwaneri’s future at Arsenal appears increasingly uncertain, with transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealing that the club expect the midfielder to depart before the transfer window closes.
“Ethan Nwaneri will leave Arsenal before the end of the summer transfer window, as planned weeks ago. He’s not even on the bench today against Man City despite being involved in pre-season,” he wrote.
The development comes despite Nwaneri featuring during Arsenal’s pre-season preparations, with his omission from the squad for the Manchester City fixture further indicating that his departure is imminent.
Teenage star struggled for regular minutes
Nwaneri burst onto the scene as a record-breaker, becoming Arsenal’s youngest-ever player to appear in the Premier League.
His emergence generated significant excitement around the Emirates, with the attacking midfielder showing enough quality to suggest he could eventually become an important figure for the club.
However, breaking into Arteta’s preferred XI has proved challenging, with opportunities coming sporadically. Nwaneri has managed four goals from 24 Premier League appearances, but a lack of sustained first-team involvement has limited his progress.
Arsenal’s wealth of attacking options has also increased the difficulty of securing a consistent role, leaving Nwaneri facing an important decision over the next stage of his career.
Milan could offer a new beginning
Milan’s interest could provide Nwaneri with an escape route and the chance to continue his development in a different environment.
The Rossoneri are seeking additional attacking invention, making the Arsenal youngster an appealing option as they assess potential additions before the transfer deadline.
For Nwaneri, a switch to Serie A could offer the regular football needed to build on his early promise, while Arsenal would see one of their highly rated academy products move on after failing to secure a permanent place in the senior squad.
With the summer window approaching its conclusion, Nwaneri’s Arsenal departure now appears increasingly inevitable, while Milan remain among the clubs who could benefit from his availability.
