Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy expresses solidarity with Saudi Arabia after attacks
Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia following recent attacks that reportedly resulted in civilian casualties.
The Al-Ahli goalkeeper shared a message of support on his official Instagram account, accompanied by the Saudi Arabian flag, writing: “Lord, make this country safe”.
Mendy posted the message after Al-Ahli’s match against Al-Wasl in Dubai, where the Saudi club secured a 3-1 away victory.
The Senegal international is known for his positive relationship with supporters and the Saudi sporting community. He has previously spoken about his happiness living in Jeddah and praised the team spirit and continued support from fans.
Demiral also expresses support
Mendy’s message followed a similar show of solidarity from his Al-Ahli teammate Merih Demiral, who voiced his support for the Kingdom before the match.
Speaking at a press conference, the Turkish defender said: “Saudi Arabia is my second country, and therefore I feel very sad about what happened, and I stand in solidarity with everyone in these circumstances.”
Mendy recovering from injury
Mendy did not feature in Al-Ahli’s 3-1 victory over Al-Wasl because of an injury.
The goalkeeper continues his treatment programme as he works towards recovery ahead of Al-Ahli’s next match against Al-Nassr in the ninth round of the Saudi Pro League, scheduled for next Thursday.
