Samu Costa’s Al Nassr arrival captured through his own smart glasses
Samu Costa received a memorable welcome from Al Nassr after arriving in Riyadh to complete his move to the Saudi club, with the entire journey recorded from the Portuguese midfielder’s own perspective.
Al Nassr announced on Sunday that it had signed Costa from Spanish side Real Mallorca. The 24-year-old is the club’s first arrival during the current summer transfer window, following the lifting of financial restrictions that had previously affected Al Nassr.
Costa reached the Saudi capital on Monday ahead of finalising his contract with the Riyadh-based club. His agreement is set to run for four seasons and will keep him at Al Nassr until 2030.
The club later published an unusual video on its official account on X, showing the midfielder’s arrival at King Khalid International Airport and the events that followed through to the signing of his contract.
Rather than filming the scenes from a conventional camera position, the footage was captured using the smart glasses Costa was wearing after landing in Riyadh. That gave viewers a first-person view of the reception prepared for him, as well as his movements through the airport and the formal stages of completing his transfer.
The nature of the video offered Al Nassr supporters an unusual look at the club’s latest signing as he began his new spell in Saudi Arabia. It showed Costa experiencing the welcome directly, rather than simply appearing in a standard announcement video produced by the club.
There is considerable expectation among Al Nassr fans that Costa can fill the gap left by Marcelo Brozovic. The Croatia midfielder departed after his contract expired at the end of last season, and Costa is expected to take on an important role in the centre of the team.
Costa’s arrival comes as Al Nassr prepares for a demanding campaign across domestic and continental competitions. The club will compete for four trophies in the new season: the Roshn Saudi League, the King Cup, the Saudi Super Cup and the AFC Champions League Elite.
The signing is therefore viewed as an important early step in Al Nassr’s preparations. Costa joins from Real Mallorca as the club’s first summer recruit after the financial limitations imposed on the team were removed, with supporters now hoping his arrival will strengthen the midfield ahead of the campaign.
