Real Madrid await clearance as Yan Diomande agency row reaches FIFA

Real Madrid’s move for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has been delayed by a contractual dispute between two agencies, with one of the companies involved taking its claim to FIFA.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Roc Nation currently represents the Ivory Coast international and has been negotiating with Real Madrid over the proposed transfer. However, Maxidel has filed a complaint with FIFA alleging that its contract with Diomande was breached during those discussions.

Maxidel oversaw Diomande’s move from Leganes to RB Leipzig last year. The dispute is therefore not simply an internal disagreement between two agencies, but an issue that could have a direct impact on the player’s proposed transfer to the Spanish club.

FIFA regulations mean the case could also affect Diomande’s registration if the deal goes ahead before the dispute is resolved. The matter is understood to concern the financial element of the transfer and a share of the overall value of the agreement.

AS reports that Real Madrid were unaware of the situation and are not considered a party to the dispute. The club believes it will ultimately receive a ruling in its favour, but must nevertheless deal with the consequences while FIFA considers the complaint.

One possible solution would be for Diomande to receive permission for a temporary registration. That would allow him to obtain a provisional licence while the case is being decided and could prevent the agency dispute from entirely blocking his move.

The rest of the transfer is described as being close to completion. Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have reportedly made substantial progress over the amount to be paid for Diomande and the structure of the payments.

The clubs are also understood to have largely settled the required documentation, while the new contract the player would sign with Real Madrid is similarly close to being finalised.

The remaining uncertainty centres on the agency dispute, rather than the principal terms of the transfer between the two clubs. Until FIFA reaches a decision, however, the issue could continue to delay the final stages of Diomande’s move and create complications over his eligibility to be registered by Real Madrid.
