Zamalek postpone stadium project with Colombian company, club source says

Zamalek have not made any recent progress on plans to build a new stadium with a Colombian company, according to a source at the Egyptian club.

The source told FilGoal.com that talks with the company began in August 2025, before the withdrawal of Zamalek’s previous land allocation in October. The discussions centred on securing a new plot of land for a stadium and did not involve plans to establish a separate new club.

“The communication with this company to establish a stadium for the club began before the withdrawal of the club’s previous land in October, specifically in August 2025,” the source said.

“The negotiations concerned providing new land to build a stadium for the club only, and not establishing a new club.”

The company subsequently submitted an engineering plan and an initial vision for the proposed development. Zamalek and the company also signed a memorandum of understanding as part of those discussions.

However, the source stressed that the agreement was not connected to the land that has since been allocated to Zamalek in Hadayek October.

“The company presented an engineering plan and an initial vision for the project, and a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two parties,” the source said.

“This file has absolutely no connection with the club’s new land in Hadayek October.”

The proposed stadium project has been effectively on hold for almost a year, with no significant developments during that period.

“The project has not witnessed any notable developments for nearly a year and is currently postponed, as Zamalek’s board focuses on completing the project for the club’s new branch in Hadayek October, after agreeing a specific timetable for its implementation,” the source added.

The Ministry of Housing allocated a new plot of land to Zamalek in the Hadayek October area for the construction of a new branch of the club.

That development is now the priority for the club’s board, according to the source, following agreement on a defined schedule for carrying out the project. The stadium proposal involving the Colombian company remains separate from the new branch development and is not currently progressing.

The original talks began while Zamalek was still seeking a suitable location for a stadium after its previous land in October was withdrawn. The memorandum of understanding therefore relates to an earlier stage of the club’s plans and does not represent a new agreement concerning the Hadayek October site.

Zamalek have not announced any fresh developments regarding the stadium proposal, while the source described the project as postponed at present. The club’s immediate attention is instead directed towards delivering its new branch on the land allocated by the Ministry of Housing.
