Maresca plays down Rodri transfer talk amid Real Madrid links

Enzo Maresca has dismissed speculation over Rodri’s future at Manchester City, saying the midfielder’s reported connection with Real Madrid remains “just speculation”.

Rodri’s contract with Manchester City is due to expire in the summer of 2027, but his name has been linked with a move to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.

Asked about the Spain international’s situation, Maresca told reporters: “For now, everything that is being said is just speculation.”

The Manchester City manager added that Rodri had recently undergone surgery in Madrid and that the procedure had been successful.

“Rodri had surgery last Monday in Madrid, and everything went well,” Maresca said.

“He will now have a few days of rest, then he will return to us after his holiday.”

Rodri’s future has attracted attention while he continues his recovery, but Maresca said the player remained highly valued at Manchester City and would be coveted by coaches around the world.

“Any manager in the world would want to have a player like Rodri, because he is a world-class player,” he said.

Maresca also indicated that contract discussions had not been a priority for the midfielder recently, with Rodri’s attention focused on Spain’s World Cup campaign and the break that followed it.

“Recently, Rodri’s entire focus was on the World Cup, and now he is enjoying his holiday after the tournament. We have not held any talks focused on renewing his contract,” Maresca said.

He also played a leading role as Spain won their second World Cup, beating Argentina 1-0 in the United States.
