Nordsjaelland crush GAIS 6-0 to reach Europa Conference League qualifying round three

Nordsjaelland produced a devastating home performance to overturn a first-leg deficit and thrash Swedish side GAIS 6-0, sealing their place in the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League with a 6-1 aggregate victory.

The Danish club, beaten 1-0 in Sweden in the opening leg, responded emphatically in the return match, sweeping aside GAIS with a dominant display that was effectively settled before half-time.

Runar Nordheim led the way with a brace, while Villum Berthelsen, Hjalte Bøye Rasmussen, Prince Amoako Junior and Niklas Røjkjær were also on target in a one-sided contest.

Egypt international Ibrahim Adel came off the bench in the 65th minute, featuring in the closing stages as Nordsjaelland completed the rout.

Early blitz turns tie around

Nordsjaelland wasted little time in erasing GAIS’s first-leg advantage. Nordheim opened the scoring after just 11 minutes, striking early to put the hosts ahead on aggregate for the first time in the tie.

Their momentum continued almost immediately. Three minutes after the opener, Berthelsen doubled the lead, leaving GAIS reeling as Nordsjaelland seized full control of the second leg.

The home side maintained the pressure for the remainder of the first half and were rewarded again shortly before the interval. Rasmussen added a third goal to give Nordsjaelland a commanding 3-0 lead on the night and a 3-1 aggregate advantage at the break.

Nordsjaelland finish the job in style

Any hopes GAIS had of staging a second-half response were quickly extinguished as Nordsjaelland resumed on the front foot.

Nordheim struck again after the interval, scoring his second and the team’s fourth to stretch the lead and further underline the gulf between the sides on the evening.

Amoako Junior then capitalised on a mistake from the GAIS goalkeeper to make it 5-0, punishing the visitors for a defensive error and pushing the aggregate score even further out of reach.

With the tie effectively settled, Nordsjaelland continued to attack and were rewarded with a sixth goal. Røjkjær rounded off the scoring, completing the comprehensive victory and confirming what was, by that stage, an inevitable progression to the next round.

The 6-0 win not only overturned the narrow defeat in Sweden but also sent a clear statement about Nordsjaelland’s attacking strength as they move into the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
