Egypt begin Africa Cup of Nations qualifying camp with 10 players

Egypt have held their first training session ahead of their qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with 10 players taking part.

The national team’s camp began at the National Teams Centre on Thursday after the locally based players reported for duty.

The nine overseas-based players are expected to join the squad over 21 and 22 September, according to FilGoal.com.

The players involved in the opening session were Mostafa Shobeir, El Mahdy Soliman, Mohamed Alaa, Abdel Aziz El Balouty, Mohamed Hany, Ahmed Fattouh, Marwan Attia, Ahmed Sayed “Zizo”, Emam Ashour and Ali Mahmoud.

Tarik Alaa has also joined the camp, while the remaining members of the squad are due to arrive in stages.

The session began with physical warm-ups before head coach Hossam Hassan oversaw a series of tactical exercises.

Egypt will train again at 21:00 local time on Friday.

Their first competitive fixture is against Angola on Friday, 25 September, at Cairo International Stadium. The team will then travel to face South Sudan on 29 September, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 Cairo time.

Egypt will complete the current series of fixtures with a friendly against South Africa on 4 October.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
