Manchester City thrash Norwich 5-0 to reach Carabao Cup last 16

Manchester City advanced to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup with a convincing 5-0 victory over Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium.

Florian Samba scored twice, while Rayan Cherki, Alan and Ryan McAidoo were also on target as City comfortably secured their place in the next round.

City will face Brighton in the last 16 after the draw was held on Wednesday.

The hosts took the lead in the 29th minute when young forward Florian Samba met a cross from Alan with a header that beat the Norwich defence and goalkeeper.

Manchester City doubled their advantage three minutes later. Rayan Cherki was played through by Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and finished after going one-on-one with the goalkeeper to put the home side firmly in control.

Alan added a third for City three minutes after the restart. He created the opportunity himself with an individual run before finishing with a shot that found the net in the 48th minute.

Samba completed his double in the 54th minute, cutting a shot into the Norwich goal to make it 4-0. The strike was his second of the match and Manchester City’s fourth.

Ryan McAidoo completed the scoring in the 90th minute. He received the ball from Nico O’Reilly before placing his effort into the Norwich net to round off a comprehensive City win.

Manchester City had already established a decisive lead before the final stages, and McAidoo’s late goal provided the final margin as they moved through to the last 16.

The draw confirmed Brighton as City’s next opponent in the competition.
