German-Cameroonian defender Elias Egouli’s proposed move to SV Elversberg has collapsed after the defender failed a medical examination, bringing an abrupt end to a transfer that had appeared close to completion.

The 23-year-old centre-back was expected to join the 2. Bundesliga club this summer, but the deal has now been called off, with Fortuna Düsseldorf confirming that the transfer will not go ahead.

Medical issue halts transfer

According to reports, Elversberg had been prepared to trigger the release clause in Egouli’s contract, which runs until 2029.

The club had planned to pay the agreed transfer fee of €1 million to secure the defender’s services, but the move was abandoned after the player did not pass his medical assessment.

Return to Fortuna Düsseldorf

Following the collapse of the deal, Egouli is expected to rejoin Fortuna Düsseldorf’s pre-season training camp.

His immediate future remains uncertain, with it still unclear whether another club will pursue the defender before the transfer window closes or whether he will remain with Fortuna for the upcoming campaign.

For now, the failed medical has brought an unexpected twist to Egouli’s summer, leaving both player and club to reassess their options ahead of the new season.
