Theo Nimely: Liberian midfielder joins Yangon United on free transfer
Liberian defensive midfielder Theo Nimely has joined Myanmar National League side Yangon United on a free transfer from Watanga FC.
The 27-year-old, who stands at 1.84m and plays primarily as a holding midfielder, has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 after leaving the Liberian club at the end of last season. The move marks his first spell in Asian football.
Nimely arrives in Yangon with experience of continental competition, having featured in the CAF Confederation Cup, where he made two appearances and accumulated 117 minutes of game time. His performances in those fixtures helped raise his profile beyond West Africa.
The Monrovia-born player returns to the international club stage following three years back and forth between Liberia and Kosovo. He first left Watanga FC for Kosovan side KF Flamurtari in January 2021, before rejoining Watanga in July 2023.
A right-footed specialist in the defensive midfield role, Nimely will be expected to add physical presence and tactical discipline in front of Yangon United’s back line as they compete in the Myanmar National League.
Nimely’s switch from Watanga FC to Yangon United is a permanent free transfer, with the Liberian midfielder now under contract in Myanmar until the summer of 2027.
