Nobel Mendy: Rayo Vallecano centre-back linked with Leipzig move in Bundesliga switch rumour

Nobel Mendy, the Senegal and Guinea-Bissau centre-back currently at Rayo Vallecano, is being linked with a move to Bundesliga side Leipzig as the German club assess defensive options for the new season.

The 21-year-old left-footer only joined Rayo permanently this summer, signing from Real Betis for a reported 3.5m fee after an impressive loan spell in Madrid. He is under contract at Rayo until 30 June 2030, a long-term deal that is expected to give the LaLiga club a strong negotiating position should Leipzigs interest develop into a formal approach.

Mendy featured regularly in Spains top flight last season, making 26 LaLiga appearances and scoring twice, building on earlier senior experience in France with Paris FC and in the Spanish lower divisions with Betis Deportivo. His current market valuation stands at around 7.5m, a figure likely to form a reference point in any talks between the clubs.

Born in Guediawaye and standing at 1.87m, Mendy has progressed quickly since leaving youth football in France, moving from Paris FCs academy sides into senior competition before Betis secured his services in 2024. A subsequent loan to Rayo the following year accelerated his rise, convincing the Madrid club to convert the deal into a permanent transfer on 1 July 2026.

While no agreement is in place and negotiations have not been finalised, Rayos recent investment and Mendys long-term contract suggest Leipzig would need to table a substantial offer to tempt the Spanish side into selling.
