CAF football development summit to bring together Hassan, Motsepe and African football leaders

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold a football development summit in Cape Verde from 7 to 9 October, with Egypt manager Hossam Hassan among the invited participants.

The event will be led by CAF president Patrice Motsepe and will bring together the presidents of all 54 CAF member associations, regional football association leaders, members of the CAF Executive Committee, national-team coaches and international football experts.

The summit will focus on two main areas: strengthening the development and sustainability of football across Africa, and assessing the performances of Africa’s 10 representatives at the 2026 World Cup ahead of efforts to achieve greater success at the 2030 tournament.

Motsepe has invited the presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, regional association presidents and CAF Executive Committee members to examine the organisation’s continuing strategy.

That strategy is intended to make African football world-class and self-sufficient, while raising CAF competitions to a level capable of matching global competition.

The meeting is also expected to be attended by FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

It will welcome the 10 African national teams taking part in the 2026 World Cup and their coaches, as well as leading coaches from the other 44 CAF member associations.

A number of prominent figures from the international game will also attend. They will include respected football experts and FIFA’s Technical Study Group, which will be led by Arsene Wenger.

Hassan’s participation will place the Egypt manager among the coaches and senior football officials involved in discussions about the future direction of the game on the continent.

The summit is designed to bring football’s decision-makers together to review development priorities, examine Africa’s World Cup performances and discuss how CAF competitions can continue to progress on the international stage.
