Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir has been named among the five highest-rated goalkeepers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a series of impressive performances before the Pharaohs’ elimination in the round of 16.

Shobeir’s displays throughout the tournament earned him a place among the competition’s leading shot-stoppers, despite Egypt’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to Argentina ending their World Cup campaign.

The rankings are based on FIFA’s Power Ranking system, which evaluates players using objective performance data collected during matches rather than selections made by journalists or analysts.

Data-driven performance ratings

Under the Power Ranking methodology, every player who features for at least 20 minutes receives an individual performance score.

Goalkeepers are assessed across two key areas: their contribution when their team has possession of the ball and their performances without possession, including their shot-stopping and defensive actions.

The same data-driven system has also highlighted stars such as Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe among the tournament’s standout performers.

Shobeir among elite company

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon occupies fifth place in FIFA’s goalkeeper rankings.

The list also features Portugal’s Diogo Costa, Switzerland’s Gregor Kobel, Paraguay’s Orlando Gil and Egypt’s Mostafa Shobeir among the tournament’s highest-rated goalkeepers.

Shobeir’s inclusion follows a memorable World Cup campaign in which he produced a string of important saves before Egypt’s journey came to an end against Argentina.

Meanwhile, Unai Simon reached another milestone during Spain’s run, recording 518 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal in his 63rd international appearance, setting a new World Cup clean-sheet record.
