Le Havre appoint former Senegal star Demba Ba as sporting director
Former Senegal international Demba Ba has officially embarked on a new chapter after being appointed sporting director of Le Havre ahead of the new Ligue 1 season.
The former Chelsea attacker now leaves USL Dunkerque to join the Ligue 1 club after an impressive spell working behind the scenes at the club.
Demba Ba arrives at Le Havre with a growing reputation as one of the emerging football executives in France following three years at Dunkerque, where he played a key role in the club’s sporting development and long-term planning. His work reportedly caught the attention of Le Havre’s hierarchy, who have now entrusted the Senegalese with leading their sporting project.
The 40-year-old will now oversee recruitment, squad planning, talent identification and the club’s overall sporting direction as Le Havre look to strengthen their position in French football.
Ba’s appointment represents another significant milestone in his post-playing career after hanging up his boots following a distinguished journey across Europe and Asia. During his playing days, the former forward featured for clubs including Chelsea FC, Newcastle United FC, West Ham United FC and Beşiktaş JK.
Known for his leadership qualities and strong understanding of the game, Ba has steadily transitioned into football management and administration since retirement. His time at Dunkerque was widely viewed as successful, with the club making notable progress both on and off the pitch under his influence.
Le Havre will hope his experience, football knowledge and international profile can help drive the club’s ambitions in Ligue 1 as they seek stability and growth in one of Europe’s top leagues.
For Demba Ba, the move also signals a return to the forefront of elite French football, this time in an executive capacity rather than as a player.
