OFFICIAL: Tunisia appoint Herve Renard as new head coach until end of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Tunisia have officially confirmed the appointment of French tactician Hervé Renard as the new head coach of the national team following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi after the Carthage Eagles’ heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Tunisian Football Federation announced that Renard will lead the national team for the remainder of the World Cup campaign and will begin his duties immediately.

“The Tunisian Football Federation announces the appointment of Herve Renard as coach of the national team until the end of the 2026 World Cup,” the statement read.

The federation also revealed that Renard’s agreement includes the same financial conditions initially proposed and contains a provision to begin negotiations for a longer-term partnership after the tournament.

Any future deal will be based on achieving specific sporting objectives agreed upon by both parties.

Renard arrives with a wealth of international experience and an impressive record in African football.

The 57-year-old won the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2015, while also leading Morocco and Saudi Arabia at previous FIFA World Cups.

He earned global recognition in Qatar 2022 when his Saudi Arabia side stunned eventual champions Argentina in one of the tournament’s greatest upsets.

The Frenchman faces an immediate challenge as Tunisia seek to recover from their disappointing start to the World Cup.

The Carthage Eagles still have crucial Group F matches against Japan and the Netherlands as they attempt to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

A media briefing featuring Renard is scheduled to take place at the team’s training ground 30 minutes before Tuesday’s training session, where he is expected to address the press for the first time since taking charge.

Tunisia will be hoping Renard’s arrival can spark a dramatic turnaround as they look to rescue their World Cup campaign in Mexico.
