Real Madrid row: Aurélien Tchouaméni shuts down ‘false stories’
Aurélien Tchouaméni has moved to firmly dismiss reports of a dressing room confrontation with teammate Federico Valverde, insisting the situation at Real Madrid has been exaggerated and distorted by outside narratives.
In an interview with L’Équipe, the French midfielder rejected suggestions of a lingering dispute, stressing that there is no breakdown in relationships within the squad.
“There is no problem” with Valverde, he made clear, pushing back against speculation that the incident had created internal tension at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“False stories” fuel outside noise
Tchouaméni expressed frustration at how the episode was portrayed in the media, arguing that the reality inside the dressing room was far removed from public interpretation.
“What bothered me were the false stories that came out compared to what actually happened. I can’t do anything about that. The most important thing is that in the locker room, we’re cool, we’re relaxed,” he told L’Équipe.
His comments underline a growing irritation among elite players over rapid media amplification of minor internal incidents, particularly at high-profile clubs such as Real Madrid.
Lessons from the spotlight
Beyond simply addressing the rumours, Tchouaméni used the episode to reflect on how quickly football narratives escalate and fade in the modern game.
He suggested the experience has helped him gain perspective, noting that the emotional weight of such situations is often temporary.
“No matter what happens in your life, the problem is never as big as you think it is,” he said.
He expanded on that idea by describing how quickly attention shifts in elite football, where news cycles move at relentless speed.
“Like everything, today people talk about this, tomorrow they’ll talk about something else. You just have to get through the two or three days when there’s a buzz.
“This story got so big that for the first two or three days, it felt like it would never end. But actually, after two or three days, someone says something crazy or another story comes up and you move on,” Tchouaméni added.
The midfielder, who believes he has reached a new performance level this season, framed the experience as part of his wider development at the club.
Clearing the air with Valverde
Tchouaméni also confirmed that he has since reconnected with Valverde, insisting there has been no lasting friction between the pair.
“We trained together,” he said, adding that scheduling issues prevented them from featuring side by side in a recent La Liga fixture due to his own minor injury.
He was equally direct in shutting down any suggestion that the matter could escalate again, even on the international stage should France and Uruguay meet in a high-stakes encounter.
“But people really need to understand: there is no problem. A lot of things happen in a locker room. We shook hands when he came back and we keep working together.”
