Ibrahim Mbaye on the radar of Premier League clubs

African players delivered decisive moments across France’s top flight in Round 32 of Ligue 1, with Ibrahim Mbaye and Ignatius Ganago at the heart of key results that shaped both the title race and the relegation battle.

At the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain F.C. were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against FC Lorient in a contest that underlined both attacking quality and defensive vulnerability.

Mbaye wasted little time imposing himself, rising to head home Désiré Doué’s delivery in the sixth minute to hand PSG an early advantage.

The visitors responded swiftly, with Pablo Pagis restoring parity just six minutes later to set the tone for an open encounter. PSG regained control midway through the second half when Warren Zaïre-Emery found the net in the 62nd minute, seemingly putting the hosts back on course.

However, Lorient refused to relent, and Aiyegun Tosin struck in the 78th minute to secure a deserved share of the points.

While the result slightly checks PSG’s momentum, they remain firmly in control at the top of the table with 69 points, maintaining a six-point cushion over closest challengers RC Lens as the title race enters its final stretch.

Elsewhere, one of the weekend’s standout performances came from FC Nantes, who produced a commanding display to defeat Olympique de Marseille 3-0 in a result that significantly boosts their survival hopes.

Ganago proved pivotal, breaking the deadlock in the 50th minute with a composed finish that shifted momentum in Nantes’ favour. The hosts built on that platform with further goals from Rémy Cabella and Matthis Abline, completing a comprehensive victory against high-profile opposition.

The win injects renewed belief into Nantes’ fight against relegation. Sitting 17th on 23 points, they remain in immediate danger but have narrowed the gap to safety.

With only two rounds remaining, the margin for error is minimal, yet performances of this nature suggest they are capable of mounting a late escape.
