Islam Issa undergoes successful surgery

Ceramica Cleopatra winger Islam Issa has successfully undergone cruciate ligament surgery in Germany, dealing a significant setback for both club and country.

The 28-year-old winger went under the knife on Thursday after sustaining a serious knee injury during Egypt’s international friendly against Spain in Barcelona last month—a match that ended in a goalless draw but left lasting damage for the player.

Issa’s condition had raised concerns within Egypt’s technical setup, prompting swift action to ensure he received the best possible medical care. The Egyptian Football Association stepped in to fully cover the cost of the operation, highlighting the importance of the player to the national team setup.

The national team’s technical leadership, spearheaded by head coach Hossam Hassan and team manager Ibrahim Hassan, maintained close contact throughout the process. Ibrahim Hassan, in particular, closely monitored the surgical procedure in coordination with the Egyptian FA board, led by president Hani Abu Rida.

Further medical oversight was provided by Egypt’s national team doctor, Mohamed Abou El-Ela, who remained in constant communication with Farid Radwan, head of the medical staff at Ceramica Cleopatra. Radwan accompanied Issa to Germany and oversaw his care alongside renowned German specialist Dr. Christian Brall, who performed the surgery.

Early indications suggest the operation was successful, although Issa now faces a lengthy rehabilitation period that could sideline him for several months. His absence is expected to be a major blow for both club and country, given his creativity, pace, and experience on the wing.

The injury comes at a crucial time as Egypt continues preparations for upcoming international competitions, leaving the technical team to consider alternative options in his position.

For now, the focus remains firmly on Issa’s recovery, with fans and officials alike hoping to see him return stronger after overcoming one of football’s most challenging injuries.
