Mohamed Salah will be ready for the World Cup

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will recover from his injury before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“As we know, Salah always gives his all, whether he is fit or injured, striving to return. He is usually fitter than others, so we expect him to return in the latter part of the season, not tomorrow. We are always pleased that his injury is minor enough to allow him to play with us and in the 2026 World Cup,” he said.

Liverpool will travel to Old Trafford for the highly anticipated fixture, with both sides locked in a tight battle for UEFA Champions League qualification.

United currently sit third with 61 points, while Liverpool trail closely in fourth with 58, adding even greater significance to the encounter.

Speaking ahead of the game, Slot reflected on last season’s meeting between the two sides, insisting that it exposed the true strength of Manchester United despite their lower position in the table at the time. He noted that their quality has only become more evident this season, particularly following key additions during the summer transfer window.

The Dutch tactician also pointed to the influence of Michael Carrick, highlighting the technical stability brought to the team and how it has translated into improved performances. While acknowledging that playing once a week can provide an advantage, Slot maintained that squad quality remains the most decisive factor behind United’s rise.

He made it clear that the importance of the clash goes beyond the rivalry itself, emphasising its direct impact on Champions League qualification and Liverpool’s ambition to finish the season strongly after falling short of some earlier targets.

Addressing the broader objective, Slot described Champions League qualification not as a dramatic leap, but as a necessary step in the club’s ongoing progress. He stressed that maintaining consistency will be crucial, noting that the team must prove itself across all fixtures, whether against top rivals or sides like Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Slot concluded by reiterating that true success is measured by sustained results, insisting that only consistent performances will define Liverpool’s season.
