Chalobah insists Chelsea still have everything to fight for this season
Trevoh Chalobah has urged Chelsea to embrace the pressure of a decisive season finale, insisting the squad still holds firm belief in its ability to deliver silverware and secure a strong league finish under interim guidance.
With Chelsea advancing to the FA Cup final and remaining in contention for a top-four Premier League finish, the defender says the squad must treat every remaining fixture as a knockout occasion as they navigate the closing stretch of the campaign under caretaker manager Calum McFarlane.
Chalobah pointed to the club’s recent history of competing deep into tournaments as evidence of an ingrained mentality that must now be reignited. “It’s another final for us.
Last year we were in finals (UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup) and the year before too (with the Carabao Cup). So, we have that mentality, and it’s good that we showed that. We all knew what the goal was: to win no matter what,” he said.
The 26-year-old stressed that Chelsea’s remaining schedule effectively mirrors a series of cup deciders, with league matches now carrying heightened significance alongside their Wembley showdown.
“For us, it’s just focusing on what we have. There are another five finals ahead: four in the Premier League and then, obviously, here (at Wembley) in the FA Cup,” he added, underlining the urgency within the squad.
Chelsea’s form has fluctuated in recent weeks, prompting internal reflection as they attempt to rediscover the consistency that defined earlier phases of the season.
Chalobah acknowledged the challenge of restoring momentum after setbacks but insisted the solution lies within the group’s own standards rather than external pressure.
“When you don’t win games, it’s hard to get that determination back,” he admitted. “For us, it’s just about resetting and getting our standards back. As I said, it’s still the same players we had at the start of the season when we were flying.”
He emphasised unity and focus as key principles for the run-in, urging teammates to block out external criticism and concentrate on execution.
