Hervé Renard’s future With Saudi Arabia uncertain amid Ghana links
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has reportedly conducted an internal review following a disappointing international break in March, as the Saudi Arabia national football team suffered heavy defeats, losing 4-0 to Egypt and 2-1 to Serbia.
These results have fueled criticism of French coach Hervé Renard and intensified discussions about his future.
Despite the setbacks, the Saudi Federation has emphasised that there is no intention to dismiss Renard before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Saudi Arabia, drawn in Group H alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde, will aim for one of the direct qualification spots or a place as one of the eight best third-placed teams.
According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the federation’s technical department is conducting a thorough evaluation of Renard’s record, with a decision expected in the coming days.
While reports suggest there is roughly a 30% probability of his departure, sources indicate a preference within the federation to take a measured approach given the limited time before the World Cup.
Additionally, the French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Renard had received an offer to coach the Ghana national football team.
Although Ghanaian officials reportedly contacted his agent to explore the possibility, Renard declined the offer, signalling his intention to remain with Saudi Arabia for now.
