Mohamed Salah exit backed by Liverpool legend
Mohamed Salah’s decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season has been backed by club legend John Barnes, who feels the timing suits both the player and the team.
Salah recently ended months of uncertainty over his future, which had lingered since December after his public criticism of head coach Arne Slot.
Barnes pointed to Salah’s dip in form this campaign, with the 33-year-old managing 10 goals in 35 games, as a sign that a parting of ways now makes sense. “I think it’s the right time mainly because of how the season has gone and what he’s been able to produce. I thought he’d go at the end of last season; it felt like the best time for both parties.”
He also suggested Salah’s post-Leeds comments did little to help the situation, stressing that Liverpool need their highest-paid players to be physically ready to compete every week.
“Those comments of his (after the Leeds game) didn’t help, and now is probably the right time. Liverpool need players who are physically ready to fight every week, especially if they are the highest-paid players.” “Salah has the same problem as anyone else. It happens when you are 34.”
