Fouzi Lekjaa to seek another term as Royal Moroccan Football Federation president?
Fouzi Lekjaa’s future at the helm of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has sparked widespread speculation in recent days.
As his third term nears its conclusion this year, rumours have circulated that Lekjaa may step down, citing limits on consecutive terms.
Speculation has even pointed to Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, as a potential successor. Lekjaa himself also serves as Minister Delegate in charge of the budget.
A source within the FRMF, speaking to Le360 Sport, dismissed these claims as “completely unfounded,” stressing that no elections are planned.
“The next General Assembly will focus on presenting and adopting the federation’s moral and financial reports. No vote on the presidency is scheduled,” the source added.
The source also criticised the spread of misinformation, warning that it “could mislead public opinion about the functioning of national sports institutions.”
Under Moroccan Law 30.09, the president’s term can be extended in two exceptional cases: if their role in an international federation aligns with their national position, or if their presidency is deemed of strategic national importance.
Given Lekjaa’s positions as vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and member of the FIFA Council, he remains eligible to seek another term, reinforcing Morocco’s influence in global football.
