It is a great pride, says Joao Sacramento after joining Morocco backroom staff
Portuguese coach Joao Sacramento has expressed excitement and pride following his appointment as assistant coach of the Morocco national team, joining the staff of newly appointed head coach Mohamed Ouahbi.
Shortly after the announcement, Sacramento shared his first thoughts on Instagram, describing it as an honor to be part of a project led by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
“With great pride and immense enthusiasm, I join the project of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation,” he wrote, adding that working with the Atlas Lions carries both honor and responsibility.
“Representing a nation with a rich history, a strong identity, and people who live football with unmatched passion is a tremendous honor and responsibility. I am extremely grateful for the trust placed in me,” Sacramento said.
He also highlighted the quality of Morocco’s current squad, calling it one of the most talented in the country’s history. “I am excited to work with one of the best generations in Moroccan football. Looking forward to starting this new chapter. Dima Maghrib,” he added.
Morocco has drawn global attention in recent years, particularly after reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Sacramento joins Ouahbi’s staff alongside former Moroccan international Youssouf Hadji, who will also serve as an assistant.
The Portuguese coach brings significant experience from European football, having worked closely with José Mourinho at clubs including AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur. His expertise is expected to bolster Morocco’s technical team as the squad prepares for upcoming international competitions.
With Ouahbi at the helm following Walid Regragui’s departure, the Atlas Lions are gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, carrying high expectations after their recent historic performances.
