CAF dismisses Judicial Head Yasin Robleh following disciplinary fallout

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has relieved Yasin Osman Robleh of his duties as head of its judicial bodies, bringing an end to his six-year tenure in the role.

Confirmation of the decision came from CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba on Saturday, according to a source who spoke to El Botola.

Robleh had overseen CAF’s disciplinary and investigative committees since 2019. However, his position came under increasing scrutiny following the controversy surrounding sanctions handed down after the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco national football team and Senegal national football team.

The rulings generated widespread criticism and intensified questions about the integrity and consistency of CAF’s legal framework.

In the wake of the fallout, CAF’s executive committee has appointed Togolese lawyer Cedric Egai, currently serving as Director of Legal Affairs, as interim head of the judicial bodies. His temporary promotion is aimed at restoring stability as the organization handles several pending disciplinary cases.

The leadership change has also delayed fresh rulings. Hearings were held last Thursday on multiple matters, including the high-profile encounter between Al Ahly SC and AS FAR, but decisions remain on hold until the judicial transition is fully resolved.

According to the source, once a permanent successor is appointed, CAF intends to expedite decisions on outstanding cases affecting both clubs and national teams. The move signals an effort by the continental governing body to rebuild trust in its judicial processes following weeks of controversy.

Robleh’s exit marks a significant shift within CAF’s legal structures, while Egai’s interim appointment ushers in a new phase at a pivotal time for football governance across the continent.
