FIFA considers expanding Morocco’s Youth Model across Africa
Morocco’s national youth talent development programme has earned strong praise from FIFA, according to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
The world governing body conducted two separate visits to the North African nation as part of its global talent development initiative, closely examining the structure and effectiveness of the programme.
During their stay, FIFA officials toured several leading clubs actively participating in the initiative, including Wydad Athletic Club, Raja Club Athletic, FUS Rabat and RS Berkane.
The delegation assessed how young players are scouted, trained and integrated into structured development pathways within the Moroccan football system.
FIFA representatives reportedly voiced admiration for the organisation and long-term vision underpinning Morocco’s approach.
The FRMF stated that the governing body was “greatly impressed” by the model, which has now drawn interest as a possible blueprint for implementation in other African nations. Such a move would position Morocco as a reference point for youth football development across the continent.
Building on this positive assessment, FIFA is set to organise a seminar in Morocco in April 2026 dedicated to enhancing the technical capacities of local coaches and instructors.
The event will gather trainers and technical experts to exchange knowledge and refine methodologies aimed at strengthening youth development structures both domestically and regionally.
In addition, FIFA will collaborate with the FRMF to provide financial backing to clubs involved in the national programme, supporting infrastructure upgrades and facility improvements.
The federation clarified that the funding will be centrally managed rather than distributed directly to the clubs, ensuring that allocations correspond to each institution’s specific needs.
Morocco’s youth initiative forms a key pillar of the country’s broader football strategy, which has already begun to yield tangible results.
In recent years, Moroccan youth sides have made significant strides internationally, highlighted by their triumph at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2025 and a series of strong performances in continental competitions.
