Italy consider Mohamed Ali Zoma as Roberto Mancini weighs September squad
Mohamed Ali Zoma has moved closer to a potential Italy call-up after receiving a pre-selection notice from Roberto Mancini for the Squadra Azzurra’s next international gathering in September 2026.
The young attacker is also being monitored by Burkina Faso, but Italy have now made an initial approach by including him among the players under consideration for the forthcoming international window. His inclusion at this stage does not guarantee a place in the final squad, and Zoma will have to wait before learning whether Mancini intends to select him.
The development was first reported by Gianluca Di Marzio and has since been confirmed by the player’s entourage. Mancini is understood to be following Zoma’s profile closely as Italy assess a group of young dual-national players who could form part of the national team’s renewal.
Zoma has Burkinabe and Ivorian origins, making him eligible to attract attention from more than one international set-up. Burkina Faso have already shown an interest in the attacker, while the Italian option has now become a possibility following the preliminary contact from Mancini.
The pre-convocation is an indication that Zoma is on Italy’s radar rather than confirmation that he will feature in the September squad. The final list has not yet been announced, so his involvement remains uncertain.
Italy are also considering Ivorian Issa Doumbia, who has likewise received a pre-convocation ahead of the next international break. His inclusion underlines the wider attention being given to young players with links to countries outside Italy as Mancini weighs the make-up of the national team.
For Zoma, the next stage will be to wait for Mancini’s definitive decision. Until Italy publish their final selection, the attacker remains in contention but cannot yet be considered an official member of the Squadra Azzurra.
The September 2026 gathering could therefore become an important moment in determining Zoma’s international future. Burkina Faso remain interested in the player, while his receipt of an Italian pre-convocation means he is now being assessed by Mancini and his staff for a possible place with Italy.
No final decision has been made on whether Zoma will be included. His situation is consequently still open, with the young forward facing a period of uncertainty before Italy’s final squad is confirmed.
