Reports linking Morocco coach Walid Regragui with a move to Olympique de Marseille have gathered pace in recent days, but a source close to the situation says the speculation should be treated with caution.
The rumours claim the French club is considering Regragui as a possible replacement for current manager Roberto De Zerbi, with suggestions that sporting director Mehdi Benatia had recommended the Moroccan coach.
However, a person described as reliable told Le Site info that discussions remain informal.
“At this stage, it’s simply a matter of interest, which is perfectly legitimate.”
The source added that Regragui’s profile naturally attracts attention from clubs and national sides because of his track record.
“It’s natural that clubs or national teams would be interested in the Moroccan coach, given his background and results,” the source added.
Despite the reported interest, the same source stressed that Regragui’s current focus remains unchanged. He is under contract with Morocco and continues to work within the framework agreed with the country’s football authorities.
“The coach is respecting his contract with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, which, for its part, reaffirms its confidence in and commitment to the shared project between the two parties,” our source states.
That position underlines the governing body’s backing of the coach and signals continuity in the national set-up, even as external speculation grows.
The source also highlighted Regragui’s professional stance amid the rumours, suggesting there has been no shift in his priorities.
“Everything that’s circulating right now is more speculation,” she stated, reiterating that to date, the only certainty is that Walid Regragui is still the coach of Morocco.
For now, the situation appears to be one of interest rather than negotiation. While links to Marseille have fuelled debate, those close to the coach insist his commitment to Morocco remains firm, with no formal move currently in motion.
