Al Ahly Club has formally reached out to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) concerning incidents that unfolded during their African Champions League encounter with Moroccan side Royal Army.
The match, part of the second round of the group stage, was marred by crowd disturbances. Fans of Royal Army reportedly threw bottles and sharp objects at Al Ahly players, prompting security interventions.
In response, some Al Ahly supporters threw water bottles onto the track, an action the club has condemned.
In an official statement, Al Ahly detailed the sequence of events:
“During the first leg at Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium on November 28, 2025, our players were endangered when sharp objects were thrown at them, as captured in video footage. At that time, Al Ahly chose not to file a formal complaint to CAF, instead raising observations aimed at improving African competitions, valuing the long-standing relationship with our Moroccan counterparts above match results. Recently, we welcomed the Royal Army delegation in Cairo, reflecting the stature of the Egyptian state and our club’s commitment to fostering goodwill.”
The club added: “During yesterday’s match, some Royal Army supporters attempted to enter areas reserved for Al Ahly fans, but security managed the situation. Unfortunately, these actions, along with earlier incidents in Morocco, triggered isolated reactions from some of our fans, who threw water bottles. Al Ahly firmly rejects such behaviour, regardless of the circumstances, and remains committed to sportsmanship and strong ties with our Moroccan brothers.”
Al Ahly confirmed it has presented a full report, including video evidence, to CAF’s Disciplinary Committee.
The club stressed that, despite the incidents, its relationship with Moroccan fans and Royal Army remains strong.
CAF has already referred the matter to its Disciplinary Committee for review.
