Bayern Munich will be without Nicolas Jackson for their meeting with RB Leipzig after head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed he had been forced to leave one player out of his squad despite having a fully fit group to choose from.
Speaking on Tuesday, Kompany described the decision as a consequence of a rare but welcome situation for the German champions — every member of the squad is available for selection.
The Belgian admitted the choice was difficult, but underlined his satisfaction at having no injury concerns ahead of the 7:45 p.m. kick-off at the Allianz Arena.
“The decision had to be made, and it’s a positive thing because the lads are fit. Of course, I’m not happy for the player who has to stay home, but I’m satisfied with the situation where we have all the players available,” he said.
According to Bayern & Germany, Jackson is the player who will miss out on the matchday squad.
Kompany’s options are extensive across the pitch. In defence, Josip Stanisic and Hiroki Ito offer versatility, capable of operating both centrally and in wide areas.
Their flexibility provides tactical alternatives against a Leipzig side expected to test Bayern’s organisation and depth.
Competition is equally intense in attacking positions. Harry Kane leads the line, supported by creative and wide threats such as Jamal Musiala, Lennart Karl, Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise.
The wealth of attacking talent has increased pressure on those seeking regular minutes.
For Jackson, who joined Bayern on loan from Chelsea last summer, the challenge has been particularly sharp.
The Senegal forward operates in one of the most competitive areas of the squad and has yet to firmly establish himself.
While he has shown determination and contributed in recent months — including playing a role in Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph — he has struggled to secure a consistent place in Kompany’s plans.
With Bayern enjoying a fully fit squad at a crucial stage of the campaign, selection decisions are becoming tougher.
Jackson’s omission underlines both the strength in depth available to Kompany and the fierce internal competition facing players vying for opportunities at the Allianz Arena.
