Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed enterprising attacker Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet suffered grade one hamstring injury in their penultimate CAF Champions League group stage clash against JS Kabylie.
Trezeguet was forced off with an injury at the end of halftime, with Taher Mohamed taking his position in the highly competitive clash on Saturday.
Despite the setback, Al Ahly managed to share the spoils with the Algerian outfit at the Stade Hocine Aït Ahmed, earning them a place in the quarterfinal of the Champions League.
Following scans, Trezeguet has been diagnosed of grade one strain in the lower part of the hamstring muscle. The injury is considered mild but the medical staff decided to place the player on recovery plan to avoid any risk of aggravation.
However, the attacker is expected to spend a short spell on the sidelines in order to fully recover. He will start his rehabilitation and physiotherapy program on Monday, with the aim of preparing him to return to match action during the coming period.
The medical team will monitor his progress closely before deciding when he can rejoin full training.
The Egyptian giants will take on FAR Rabat, who are second (8 points) in the final round of games in Group B, a match that will determine the winner of the group.
Al Ahly are gearing up for domestic competition and are expected to take on Ismaily in the Egyptian Premier League matchday 18 on Wednesday at Borg El Arab Stadium.
Al Ahly had drawn their last league match against National Bank with one goal each, leaving them in fourth place with 27 points, one point behind both Zamalek and Pyramids.
