Borussia Dortmund are weighing up a move for Rangers centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez, with the 24-year-old defender emerging as a reported target for the Bundesliga side.

Data from transfer specialists suggests Dortmund are monitoring Fernandez’s situation at Ibrox, with the likelihood of a deal currently rated at 45%. The England- and Nigeria-eligible defender, valued at around €1.50m, is understood to be one of several options the German club are considering as they look to bolster their back line.

Fernandez is currently on the books at Rangers, where he wears the number 37 shirt, but his contract details are not publicly listed, prompting speculation he could become available on favourable terms or even as a potential free agent in the near future. That uncertainty has fuelled talk of an opportunistic move from Dortmund, who have frequently targeted emerging defenders with resale value.

Standing at 1.98m and predominantly right-footed, Fernandez offers the profile of a physically dominant centre-back, a trait that may appeal in the more transition-heavy Bundesliga. His rise in valuation over the past few seasons – climbing from €50,000 at Peterborough United in 2022-23 to a seven-figure mark following his switch to Rangers – underlines how sharply his reputation has grown.

The London-born defender has taken a winding route to the top level, featuring for Gillingham’s under-18s, Margate, Sheppey United, Ramsgate, Spalding United, Barnet and Peterborough before his move to Glasgow. That experience across the English pyramid, from youth setups to senior football, has been seen as key to his development into a more rounded centre-back.

With no agreement in place and negotiations yet to be confirmed by either club, the rumour remains at an early stage. However, a move to Dortmund would offer Fernandez a significant step up in profile and competition, and could prove a defining moment in shaping both his international prospects and long-term standing in European football if it materialises.
