Arsenal complete Ezri Konsa move as defender leaves Aston Villa
Arsenal have completed the signing of England international Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term contract, adding the 28-year-old to their defensive options during the summer transfer window.
The deal was confirmed by Arsenal on the club’s official website, with Konsa set to join his new team-mates immediately. He will wear the number 15 shirt at the London club.
Konsa arrives after seven seasons with Aston Villa, during which he made more than 200 Premier League appearances for the club in all competitions. His consistent performances established him as one of the division’s leading defenders, while his ability to operate both at centre-back and right-back has added to his value.
Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta said: “We are delighted to complete the signing of Ezri Konsa. He is a defender of very high quality, and his physical ability, composure and tactical intelligence have made him one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League. His ability to play at centre-back and right-back will give our team important flexibility, while maintaining the high defensive standards that are an essential part of our ambition to win major trophies.”
Berta added: “We welcome a player with proven experience in the Premier League and at international level, as well as strong leadership qualities, who will be able to adapt seamlessly to our style of play. Equally importantly, we welcome a player with the character and mentality needed to make an immediate impact at our club.”
Konsa began his professional career with Charlton Athletic, making his first-team debut in 2016. He quickly emerged as one of the club’s most promising young defenders.
After two seasons with Charlton Athletic’s first team, he moved to Brentford in 2018. His performances during the 2018-19 season enhanced his growing reputation and earned him the opportunity to step up to the Premier League with Aston Villa in 2019.
His progress at club level was matched internationally. Konsa represented England at under-20 and under-21 level before making his senior debut in 2023. Since then, he has become a regular member of the England squad and represented his country at Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.
The move gives Arsenal a defender with extensive Premier League experience, international exposure and the versatility to cover more than one position across the back line. Konsa’s arrival also strengthens the club’s defensive depth as they pursue their ambitions in the season ahead.
The former Aston Villa player will now begin work with his new Arsenal colleagues after completing his move to north London.
