The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has cracked their whip, slapping the Senegalese Football Federation with $615,000 fine for players, staff and supporters misconduct during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The continental showpiece final saw the Taranga Lions walked-off the pitch for 17 minutes in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco in the final, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

With Sadio Mane intervening, Senegal returned for the continuation of the final, where the Taranga Lions emerged as the champions after extra-time. Midfielder Pape Gueye emerged as the hero after netting a solo to inspire Senegal to victory after Brahim Diaz had missed the crucial penalty kick.

After a thorough review, the continental football governing body has handed Senegal with a hefty fine for players, staff and supporters misconduct during the final.

The Senegal FA will now pay $300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, $300,000 for the unsporting conduct of their players and technical staff, and $15,000 for misconduct of five of their players in the final.

A statement from CAF reads, “To fine the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, which brought the game into disrepute in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play and integrity”

“To fine the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), USD 300,000 for the unsporting conduct of their players and technical staff in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity. The unsporting conduct of their players and the technical staff also brought the game into disrepute”

“To fine the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), USD 15,000 for the misconduct of its National Team, due to five (5) of its players having received cautions”

Following the heavy sanctions, the Senegal FA is expected to lodge an appeal in the coming days against the CAF rulings.
