AS FAR reach CAF Confederation Cup group stage with late triumph against Korhogo
Morocco’s AS FAR booked their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage after defeating Côte d’Ivoire’s CO Korhogo 2-1 in the second leg of their second preliminary-round tie.
The Rabat-based side secured a 2-1 aggregate victory on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, having played out a goalless draw in the first leg in Côte d’Ivoire on October 17.
El Fahli gives AS FAR early advantage
AS FAR made a fast start, with Youssef El Fahli converting a penalty in the fifth minute to give the Moroccan side the lead.
However, Korhogo responded after the break, scoring an equaliser in the 54th minute to leave the tie finely balanced as the second half progressed.
Bach strikes late to seal qualification
With five minutes remaining in regulation time, Anas Bach rose to head home the decisive goal, securing victory for AS FAR and confirming their passage to the group stage.
The result sends the Moroccan club into the group stage of the 2026-27 CAF Confederation Cup, where 16 teams will compete for places in the knockout rounds.
AS FAR target another continental run
Coached by Pedro Soares Gonçalves, AS FAR entered the competition in the second preliminary round after receiving a bye, alongside several established African clubs, including fellow Moroccan side Raja Casablanca.
The club previously won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2005, defeating Nigeria’s Dolphin FC in the final. They returned to the final the following year but lost to Tunisia’s Étoile du Sahel.
According to CAF’s official calendar, the group stage is scheduled to begin between November 27 and 29, with six matchdays running through January 24, 2027.
AS FAR will discover their group-stage opponents at the draw as they look to make another strong run in African football.
