English Championship side AFC Wrexham have reportedly submitted an official offer to Angers in a bid to sign highly rated Guinean forward Sidiki Cherif.
The move signals Wrexham’s growing ambition as they continue to target young talents capable of elevating the club’s profile.
Cherif, a 19-year-old striker currently with SCO Angers, had emerged as a surprise transfer target for Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt during the January transfer window. However, according to Sky Sports, it is Wrexham who have now made a concrete move by presenting a formal proposal to the French club for the young forward.
This development follows a period in which Cherif was close to joining Crystal Palace, before talks between the clubs reached a standstill. Palace had proposed a loan deal with an option to buy valued at around €15 million, but Angers are reportedly holding out for a fee just under €20 million.
With Eintracht Frankfurt’s interest said to have cooled, the situation has opened the door for unexpected suitors. Wrexham, known for their ambitious rise through the English football pyramid, are understood to view Cherif as a potential statement signing that could further underline the club’s long-term intentions.
