Morocco’s national team will hold talks to assess their disappointing end to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following their defeat to Senegal in the final.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has confirmed that a meeting is expected between its president, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the national coach, Walid Regragui, to review the team’s performance throughout the tournament.
Morocco had reached the final, coming close to securing their first AFCON title in recent years, but ultimately fell short in a dramatic conclusion.
The FRMF statement outlined that the meeting will focus on evaluating the team’s journey and identifying lessons from the competition.
“This situation had a significant impact on the normal course of the match and on the performance of the players,” the federation said, highlighting concerns over events during the final.
Morocco’s appeal to football’s governing bodies is also underway. The FRMF has announced plans to pursue legal action with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) over Senegal’s withdrawal from the pitch during the final.
The federation claims the decision followed a penalty awarded by the referee, which they say disrupted the match.
The penalty, deemed correct by most specialists, triggered a chain of events that the FRMF argues unfairly influenced the outcome of the game.
The federation’s statement emphasized the extraordinary impact these events had on Morocco’s performance, describing the situation as pivotal in shaping the final result.
Despite the setback, Morocco’s run to the final showcased the team’s resilience and ambition on the continental stage.
The upcoming discussions between Lekjaa and Regragui are expected to clarify the federation’s next steps and address the team’s future in international competitions.
Moroccan fans and football analysts alike will be closely watching the outcomes of these meetings, as the nation seeks accountability and a roadmap for reclaiming continental glory.
