Amr El-Gazar has began his Al Ahly journey on Tuesday, marking the first step in the defender’s transition from Bank Al Ahly to the Cairo giants.
The move comes after months of negotiations and completes the club’s first major signing of the current winter transfer window. The four-and-a-half-year deal reportedly cost Al Ahly 60 million Egyptian pounds [approximately $1,273,142], with Bank Al Ahly also receiving player Ahmed Reda on loan as part of the arrangement.
The 26-year-old Egyptian’s first day at the club is being carefully structured to introduce him to fans and the media. According to a source within Al Ahly, the defender will participate in a photoshoot at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium in Gezira this afternoon, ahead of his formal presentation as the club’s newest acquisition.
The presentation is designed to familiarise supporters with El-Gazar while generating excitement for his arrival as a key defensive addition.
Later in the day, El-Gazar is expected to join the first-team training session, with head coach Jes Thorup keen to integrate him into the squad quickly.
The source noted that the player’s initial participation may be limited to gym-based or rehabilitation work, depending on his medical assessment, as he has been recovering from an injury sustained during his time with Bank Al Ahly.
Despite this, the club confirmed he is ready to participate in competitive matches in the near future.
Al Ahly is also pursuing a second defensive reinforcement during the ongoing transfer window. With the potential departures of defenders such as Ashraf Dari, Ahmed Ramadan Beckham, and Mostafa Al-Ash, the club is evaluating several candidates, including Petrojet’s Hady Riad, Al-Masry’s Khaled Sobhi, and Egyptian international Omar Fayed.
The coaching staff, led by Jes Thorup, is expected to make a final decision in the coming weeks to strengthen the defensive line and complete the squad’s mid-season restructuring. El-Gazar’s arrival signals Al Ahly’s intent to secure immediate stability at the back while preparing for the challenges of the second half of the season.
