Dutch and Liverpool wing-back Jeremie Frimpong of Ghanaian descent has admitted his side must improve in the final third after being held to a frustrating 0–0 draw by Leeds United at Anfield.
The goalless result left the home crowd disappointed, with Liverpool struggling to break down a disciplined Leeds defence despite enjoying large spells of possession. For Frimpong, the lack of cutting edge was the biggest source of frustration.
“It’s really frustrating,” he said after the match. “We wanted to win the game. I don’t think we created that many chances.
“They defended well. At the end of the day, 0–0, it’s very frustrating, but it’s on to the next game.”
The 24-year-old, whose family roots trace back to Ghana, was typically energetic down the flank but felt he could have done more with the opportunities that came his way.
“Obviously we tried,” he added. “We had a couple of chances and I think I should have delivered the ball better. That’s all I can say.”
Despite the setback, Frimpong remains confident Liverpool have the quality to respond quickly, insisting it is now about execution rather than effort.
“We create a lot of chances, so we know what we can do,” he said. “We just need to go into the next game and do what we’ve got to do better.”
Liverpool will now look ahead to their next fixture, hoping to sharpen their attacking play and turn possession into goals as the season continues.
