Wrexham complete €2.35m deal for Burkina Faso defender Issa Kabore

Burkina Faso right-back Issa Kabore has joined Wrexham from Manchester City for €2.35m, completing a move from the Premier League club to the Championship side.

Kabore, 25, returns to Wrexham after spending the 2025-26 season with the club on loan from City. He made the switch to Wrexham on 1 September 2025 before returning to Manchester at the end of the campaign on 30 June 2026.

The defender’s latest move brings an end to his six-year association with City, who signed him from Belgian club KV Mechelen for €4.5m on 29 July 2020. He immediately returned to Mechelen on loan and subsequently spent time away from the Premier League club with Troyes, Marseille, Luton, Benfica, Werder Bremen and Wrexham.

Kabore’s longest spell with City has included several temporary moves across England and Europe. He joined French side Marseille for the 2022-23 season, moved to Luton for the following campaign and then spent part of 2024-25 at Portuguese club Benfica before joining Werder Bremen in January 2025.

During his time at Benfica, Kabore was part of the squad that won the Portuguese league cup in the 2024-25 season. He also collected an English Super Cup winner’s medal with Manchester City in the same campaign.

The move gives Wrexham a Burkina Faso international in a position he has occupied throughout his senior career. Kabore is listed as a defender and right-back, and is predominantly right-footed. He was born in Bobo-Dioulasso and was named Burkina Faso’s best young player in 2021.

Kabore’s current market value is €4m, while his transfer fee is below that figure. His City contract had been due to run until 30 June 2027, but he has now left the club after a succession of loan spells.

He had not made an appearance for Manchester City in the opening Premier League or Community Shield fixtures of the 2026-27 season before completing the move.
