Back on the pitch after his injury, Achraf Hakimi was warmly applauded by Moroccan fans as he helped the national team sign another strong victory.
Coming on in the 64th minute of the last Group A match at AFCON 2025 in Rabat, the right-back contributed to Morocco’s 3–0 win over Zambia, a result that secured a place in the round of 16 for the Lions of the Atlas.
This success marks Hakimi’s 60th win with the Moroccan national team, putting him on the verge of a historic milestone. If he keeps this pace, he could soon surpass the record of 63 international victories held by former captain Noureddine Naybet, a CAN 2004 finalist and former teammate of current coach Walid Regragui. Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, thus becomes only the second player in Moroccan history to reach 60 wins with the national side.
With the tournament being played at home and Morocco already safely through, the coming knockout matches could offer Hakimi the chance to set a new all-time record.
At 27, he is in peak form and has won each of his last 14 games with the national team, underlining his importance in a team that has grown used to winning when he is on the field.
