‘They don’t want the hassle’ – Jamie Carragher tips Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to leave Liverpool in January
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has suggested that Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah could depart the club in January.
Carragher believes the Reds may prefer to cash in on Salah rather than deal with further disruption. “I think if Liverpool get the money that they want, they will probably will. I think they’ll think they don’t want the hassle,” he said on the Stick to Football podcast.
Salah, a two-time Premier League winner, recently signed a two-year contract extension in April. Despite this, tensions have grown after the forward accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” following recent disagreements with manager Arne Slot.
Slot included Salah in the squad for last weekend’s 2-0 win over Brighton, a move Carragher described as positive for the club. The decision suggested that Liverpool hope to manage the situation carefully while preparing for potential January developments.
Carragher added that he would like to see Salah stay and leave on a high note. “I’d love him to stay and I think he can have a better send-off and have an impact between now and the end of the season,” he said.
Salah will miss Liverpool’s next three Premier League fixtures as he represents Egypt at the African Cup of Nations. With Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly circling, the winger faces a crucial decision over his future in the coming month.
