AFCON 2025: Bayer Leverkusen delays Christian Kofane’s arrival for Cameroon
Cameroonian striker Christian Kofane will join his national team in Morocco next weekend, following an agreement between FECAFOOT and Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen prioritized the player’s participation in a crucial Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig, a direct competitor, before releasing him for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The club insisted on keeping Kofane available for the high-stakes encounter, highlighting his significance to their campaign.
To ensure Kofane reaches Cameroon’s squad at the start of the tournament, Bayer Leverkusen will fly him to Morocco via private jet.
He is scheduled to arrive at the training camp on December 21, coinciding with the opening day of AFCON 2025. This logistical arrangement underlines the striker’s value to both his club and the Indomitable Lions.
The decision reflects careful coordination between the club and national federation, balancing Kofane’s responsibilities at Leverkusen with his role in Cameroon’s tournament ambitions.
Coaches and staff will integrate him immediately upon arrival, preparing him to compete despite missing pre-tournament training sessions.
Kofane’s delayed arrival exemplifies the ongoing tension between club commitments and international duties during major tournaments.
While Bayer Leverkusen benefits from his presence in critical fixtures, Cameroon gains a key attacking option just as the tournament begins, adding depth and experience to their frontline.
Both parties have emphasized professionalism and mutual respect in handling the situation.
Fans will watch closely to see how quickly Kofane adapts and contributes to Cameroon’s AFCON campaign, with his early matches likely pivotal in the Indomitable Lions’ quest for continental glory.
