Al Ahly set for Champions League test against Burundian hopefuls Aigle Noir Makamba FC
Al Ahly, Africa’s most successful club, now know their next opponents in the CAF Champions League.
The Egyptian giants will travel to Burundi next month to face Aigle Noir, who advanced to the Round of 32 after edging past Telecom Assas of Djibouti on away goals.
The decisive second leg on Saturday finished 1-1. Ntiruwaza Sodi put Telecom Assas ahead from the penalty spot in the 45+4 minute, but Sosteni Ndaye struck in the 64th minute to bring Aigle Noir level. That equalizer was enough to seal progress after the first leg in Burundi had also ended in a draw.
With qualification secured, Aigle Noir now turn their attention to the formidable task of facing Al Ahly. The first leg will take place in Burundi on one of October 17, 18 or 19, with the return leg set for October 24, 25 or 26 in Cairo, according to CAF’s official schedule.
Meanwhile, defending champions Pyramids FC will continue their own journey as they prepare to meet Rwanda’s APF in the preliminary round.
