Pyramids FC focus on fitness ahead of Auckland challenge
Pyramids FC are preparing for a key clash with New Zealand’s Auckland City FC on Sunday at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo in the opening round of the Intercontinental Cup.
The Egyptian side are hopeful of progressing in front of their supporters, knowing a win would set up a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahly at Al Enma Stadium in Jeddah on September 23.
The team’s preparations have been shaped by concerns over several players. Ramadan Sobhi has lifted spirits after recovering from an adductor injury. The winger featured in a friendly against Egypt’s U-20 side and is declared fit for the Auckland test.
Mahmoud Marei, however, will not be available. The defender recently underwent knee cartilage surgery and is expected to be sidelined for about a month. Right winger Mostafa Fathi is also ruled out due to a persistent muscle tear.
There is still some uncertainty over Ahmed Sami, who missed Egypt’s second training camp with knee pain. He is scheduled for a scan on Thursday to confirm his chances of playing.
