Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has finished ninth in the 2026 Yashin Trophy rankings, returning to the top 10 after missing out on the list in the previous three editions.
The Al-Ahli goalkeeper was recognised among the leading shot-stoppers of the season, finishing behind Morocco international Yassine Bounou and ahead of Gregor Kobel in the final standings.
Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón won the award, with David Raya taking second place and Thibaut Courtois finishing third.
Mendy’s ninth-place finish marks his return to the rankings after three consecutive editions without a place in the top 10. The 34-year-old previously enjoyed strong results in the award, finishing second in 2021 before taking fourth place in 2022.
His latest position comes after a season in which he celebrated success with both Al-Ahli and Senegal. The Saudi Arabian club secured a continental triumph, while Mendy also enjoyed international success as Senegal claimed the African title.
Those achievements formed part of a successful period for the experienced goalkeeper, who continues to attract recognition for his performances at club and international level.
Mendy has established himself as an important figure for Al-Ahli since joining the Saudi Arabian side. His experience has also made him a key presence for Senegal, with whom he has enjoyed major success in African football.
The Yashin Trophy recognises the best goalkeeper of the season as part of the Ballon d’Or awards. The final rankings bring together some of the leading goalkeepers in the game, with Mendy securing a place among the top 10 in the 2026 edition.
Although he did not finish among the leading three candidates, ninth place represents a return to the list for the Senegal international after his absence from the previous three editions.
Simón ultimately claimed the award ahead of Arsenal goalkeeper Raya and Real Madrid’s Courtois, while Mendy completed the top 10 in ninth position.
The result adds another individual recognition to a season marked by major team achievements for the Al-Ahli goalkeeper and the Senegal national team.
