Al Ahly star Ahmed Mostafa Zizo has apologised to the club fans following defeat to Pyramids FC in the matchday five of the Egyptian Premier League.

The Egyptian giants fell short in the highly competitive clash on Saturday, succumbing to a 2-0 home defeat to Pyramids FC at the Cairo international stadium.

The defeat has led to the sacking of Spanish tactician, Jose Riveiro after just four month spell at the club.

However, Zizo, who joined Al Ahly from Zamalek this summer has taken to social media to apologise to the club fans for the defeat.

“Great Al-Ahly fans, I know this is a time for gloating, especially since this is an opportunity that doesn’t come often and will never happen again, God willing.”

“Therefore, we must apologize. We all feel guilty and have fallen short in our efforts towards you regarding the recent results, which did not live up to your aspirations and do not befit the stature of our great club. We have failed ourselves first, and then you, who have never held back in your support and loyalty.”

He explained: “I admit that what was presented does not befit the spirit of Al-Ahly or your honorable history, and that what happened left a deep wound in our souls, just as it left pain and anger in your souls. However, great teams are not measured by the stumbles they encounter, but by their ability to rise again, and Al-Ahly has never known the taste of surrender.”

He continued: “I promise you that this shortcoming will not be repeated, and that the next phase will be one of hard work that will bring you and all of us, Al Ahly, to its natural position at the forefront, competing for every championship, a source of pride forever and ever.”

He added, “Wearing the Al-Ahly jersey is a great responsibility, and I swear to do everything in my power to restore our great club and its joys with you to their rightful place. You are our support and encouragement at all times. We will meet again, God willing, at the end of the year as we celebrate all the championships”

Al Ahly are currently ranked 12th in the Egyptian Premier League this season, prompting the sacking of Riveiro.
